What should be written in a personal statement for fellowships as I haven't written one in about 4 years. I plan to go into headache.

Not necessarily in this order, but you should touch on the following:

1. What you've been doing for the last 4 years (presumably residency?)
2. How you got interested in headache and why you want to pursue it further
3. Anything that makes you stand out from everyone else (research, publications, unique clinical or work experiences, especially as it relates to headache)
4. Why you are particularly interested in the programs you are applying to (obviously this should differ for each program, which means you may have to send a slightly different version of your statement to each program -- and don't get them mixed up!!!😱 Even if you are applying to every headache program in world, you should show that you know something unique about each one!)
5. What your medium-to-long term practice goals are (i.e., "I want to start my own headache clinic" "I want to do basic science research in headache" "I want to do general neurology but since headache is so common I want a better understanding of it" etc etc

So there . . . I've pretty much written your letter for you!
Of course, I'm only doing this because I have a vested interest . . . the more headache specialists there are out there, the fewer headache patients I have to see, and the more I can do "real" neurology!!!😀 Good luck!!!
