Sorry if I'm posting this in the incorrect location. I was wondering what anyone knows about personal statements for internal medicine. I really like internal medicine, but I plan to do a heme/onc fellowship and likely stay highly involved in basic science research in the future (I'm in the MD/PhD track).

Any feeling on whether to talk about internal medicine alone, or aspirations further down the road? I imagine people applying to all types of post-internal medicine sub-specialties run into this issue. Some people have told me to play up the PhD/science aspect of my application, while others have suggested focusing the the "next step" of my education, namely internal medicine residency.

Thanks!

If you're applying to academic places with lots of research, highlight your PhD, and talk about how you eventually would like to get into Heme/Onc.

Personal statements all sounds alike, unless you say something really crazy. We had this workship during my medicine intern year, where we were given all the residents' personal statements to look at. I literally could not figure out which one was mine. They were all identical.

I think your achievements and your scores will probably speak for themselves.
