I was waitlisted at a few schools this year, but unfortunately did not receive any acceptances. For this coming year I was hoping to complete a pre-professional master's program specific to pre-medical and dental students. This program requires a personal statement and I am wondering what I should and should not include in it.

I already have a great PS for dental school, but I'm not sure if it is okay to talk about dentistry in it. The master's program was designed for pre-health students that did not get in their first year or are just wanting to raise their GPA before applying-I am pretty sure this non-thesis program can't really be used for anything else.

Has anyone applied to a program like this or maybe any other post-bacc or master's programs before going to dental school? Did you talk about dentistry at all? I am just at a loss for what else to talk about since that is really all I want to be.... Thanks for your advice!

I have no experience with masters or what type of PSs you need.... but if this program is specifically designed for a pre-health student, wouldn't it make sense to still use the same dental PS? cause it demonstrates how badly you want dentistry and why this program is the gateway.

Thanks! The only reason I am questioning using my dental school personal statement is because I contacted the admissions director about LOR and asked if I could use the same ones I used for dental school. He told me that I could not and that this is not dental school, it's a master's program. He said it in a very condescending way too, like I was an idiot for even asking such a question... However, the program is FOR pre-dental/medical students and asks us to mention our career goals and reasons for wanting to complete the master's program in the personal statement.... I just have a lot of dental experience which is what most of my PS is comprised of. Nervous they will think I'm an indolent person if it sounds too dental school related.

I would recommend writing a completely new personal statement for the program. When I applied to my post-bac program I wrote a letter of intent. I basically wrote about where I was coming from, what I'm doing now, and how I think think this program will help me. It was only three paragraphs and was sweet and short. If you want I can send you my old letter of intent to give you an idea of what to write. Just P.M me.
