  1. Pre-Dental
Should a personal statement answer more of why you want to do dentistry or why you would make a good dentist (or both) because I am seeing many examples with one or the other?

I included why I want to be a dentist, then followed with a description of experiences and characteristics that would help to make me a good dentist.

here are some suggestions

- How did you become interested in dentistry? ( a compelling story that shows the origin of your interest)
- Talk about a story from your shadowing or observation (usually a story that involves a patient and what you learned from it)
- Present a story to showcase your personality, especially a personality that will help you become a good dentist (e.g. patience, perseverance, tenacity)
- discuss a leadership/community service or volunteer story to showcase your ability to lead people (dentists are leaders in their practices; so, anything that showcases your leadership skills will make you stand out.
- wrap everything up with a conclusion.

Make sure you have a central theme in your essay so that every story connects through that theme.

You can also talk about your passion for science and manual dexterity within the context of these other stories.

The personal statement should answer "Why you want to be a dentist?". Having knowledge of the qualities that makes a good dentist will be beneficial when you compose your drafts. Nevertheless, you need to ultimately show the admission committee, through your experiences, why you are a strong candidate for the dental profession.
