Hello SDN:

So I'm finishing up my personal statement and it is WAY to long. I've gone through it plenty of times and got rid of wordyness and grammatical things that add to the character count. I really feel everything in my statement is important but it is rediculously long.

Any dental students willing to read over mine and recommend which paragraphs to take out? (for example...maybe you think it's worthless to bring up research or volunteer or leadership, etc). I don't need you to look over grammar and structure (unless you want to!!). More just to give me advice on content.

Thanks in Advance.

my advice to you is to focus on one key point you want to convey to the adcoms and write your personal statement around that key point. You don't have to write a biography, but make sure you let the dental adcoms know WHY you want to become a dentist. from that, you can talk about your personal attributes that makes you a qualified candidate. Good luck

hey, I'll help out.

I had the same problem, but found that just sticking to one speciifc toipc, really made my statement more organized and to the point. Plus it was right at the word limit.

be sure not to reveal what you do not need to reveal. my statement was a disaster because i revealed too much and courted questioning and doubting by the interviewers. keep in mind that no one is gonna dig you up unless you give'em a reason to do so. make it simple and easy to read. you'd rather have a cliched statement than one that creates awkward situations in your inTview. maybe my advice does not apply to you but a very long statement is a sign of too much information, setting the stage for a rocky inTview.

I'll review for free, was in your situation about a year ago and Sprgrover, another member here, helped me get focused.
