I'm writing my personal statemtne (I know I'm pretty late, hope it is still worth applying🙁
But, I'm not really sure I have a good idea of what they are really looking for in the personal statement. It is such a short essay that I am thinking maybe they just want to see something basic, and to the point about why I want to goin into osteopathic medical school. My essay right now, is WAY too long and I'm having a hard time trying to figue out what to focus on.

I'm not sure, I'm just getting stuck on it and wondered if there was any advice or info out there about what they are looking for. Thanks!

Im in the same situation as u. I have my application ready but i cant seem to let it go because of my personal statement. some say it is too broad and not personal enough. but how personal should i get? we only 3000 characters and they say not to repeat what is in your application so there goes my volunteer experience, honors and work experience!! also, if i get specific, what will be left to talk about in the secondary!!! so i basically talked about why i admire osteopathic medicine. any suggestions so i could finally press SEND!!!! 😕

I saved why osteopathic schools and why their specific school for the secondary. Most schools do not have time to read your primary essay. They will send you a secondary application if your numbers are above their cut-offs. My secondary application essays are much better than my primary. Just get your primary app. in now!

FutureDoc - Thanks for the info! I needed that little push. I'm sending it tonight! Enough is enough, it is just an application....

Exactly! Don't be surprise if you doubt yourself after submitting it. I'm sure it happened to everyone. I used to think what if I waited another week so I can have someone check it for spelling and grammatical errors? Don't hesitate. Just submit it and move on to the next stage. Interview spots are starting to fill up for October now by the time you get an interview it could be late November!

Do not rush your personal statement, it can make you or break you. Basically you need to answer the question, Why do you want to become a doctor?

Is there a story that you can tell? What experiences have you had to make you pursue medicine? Where you or a close relative ill?

Tell a story. You are quite late in the process but it is still not impossible.
