I am trying to avoid the "want to help people" cliche. I am non-trad and have worked in healthcare for two years and for part of my statement am taking the angle of wanting to be able to contribute more to patient care than I have been able to in my positions. Does this avoid the cliche?

Talking about your personal motivation for wanting to help people in healthcare specifically might be a nice touch. Teachers, mentors, good bosses, and counsellors all "help" people, so why does helping someone develop and maintain a great smile sound like a good career to you?

Or your could just throw in a dramatic story about knowing this was your life path when you saved the smile of impoverished orphans (only if applicable).
