Hi guys, I had a quick question about the personal statement - do you guys think it's important to throw out the main point of "why you wanna be a doctor" right at the very beginnning? Or is it acceptable to lead into your main motivations for entering medicine with a narrative right from the start?

My friend knows an application reader who stresses to always begin with the thesis, and if they don't see the point in the first paragraph they might not read it...

I always hear that it's good to start with anecdotes. Whatever it is, you want that opening paragraph to be compelling and get your reader interested right at the beginning.

From what I hear and have read (I'm applying myself),

You can have a hook. But you want to have at least some reference to the question (doesn't have to be a complete answer) early on, say first or second paragraph.

e.g. blah blah blah blah and I began to consider medicine blah blah blah
