Hi everyone,

I applied to a couple dental schools as a junior is undergrad just to see what my chances were of getting in. I had 1 interview (waitlisted). I'm now prepping to reapply June 1st (I applied late October last cycle) and was wondering how my personal statement should change/if it should change when I reapply.

Thanks!

You're going to need to talk about what you will do/have done since you last reapplied and how what you have done has made you a stronger applicant. Not updating your PS will instantly get you rejected as a re-applicant.

How about letters of rec?

I don't know if I have gotten lucky, but I used my old letters and PS. For some reason got interviews from same schools I got interviews last year.
I definitely do not recommend this, but I just dind't have time, energy, and motivation to edit my ps and get new letters. There was just too much going on in my life.
I am glad it worked out for me, but deifnitely change your PS if possible.

Could you kindly explain why it's a bad idea to reuse the PS of previous cycle?

It just shows laziness on part of the applicant, which really turns admissions officers off. Why wouldn't you update schools on what you've been up to? If you're re-applying with no update to your application (more shadowing, new job, etc), you're doing it completely wrong. It's not like you need an entirely new PS from scratch.

But can you use parts of your old PS? I really liked some of it and think a lot still applies (obviously some will change though)
