Hey guys, so I was in class today wondering about my personal statement, and I was wondering about some feedback. I know you are supposed to write about yourself, but is incorporating a piece of literature that you identify with considered "clever/setting yourself apart?" I am trying to think of catchy things that grabs the board's attention but still gets me across at the same time.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, what are the do's and do not's of personal statement writing? I want to be unique but still have me shine through.

Thanks! 🙂

Maybe other could chime in, but it was my understanding that the question for the 2012-13 PTCAS application cycle would be related to direct access. I could be wrong, though.

Some schools have additional essay questions to answer. Maybe that is what the OP is talking about.

Do's: brain storm, write in a word processor first, make sure you understand the question thoroughly and answer ALL questions, ensure all words are used correctly, be honest, have many people edit (especially those who will offer constructive feedback and are willing to hurt your feelings). Do not: lie.

Some schools require additional items such as the personal statement ( separate from the PTCAS essay) and it is also beneficial to give one to the person you are getting a letter of rec . from so they get to know you a little more. I am trying to get some ideas as to the do's for the personal statement section.
