Hey guys, I'm rather upset about some formatting errors that occurred in my Personal Statement that I didnt notice until AFTER I submitted my AMCAS. Apparently, even though I hand typed my Personal Statement into the text box of the AMCAS, none of my paragraphs/indents were visible in the print summary. My AMCAS PS looks like one massive paragraph. I know it seems like a really boneheaded mistake to make, but since I've already submitted I can't think about my mistake too much. I'm really worried about how my PS will be perceived since one massive block of 5300 characters doesn't exactly scream organization or clear thoughts. Anyone have any suggestions? Is it worth shooting an email to admissions officers at the schools I applied to just to let them know about the error? I'm really freaking out about this and would appreciate and advice anyone out there has for me!

hi troubled devil

i could be completely wrong but if I remember correctly the same thing was worrying me last year and i think i called AMCAS and they said it doesn't show up but it will on the version that your schools will receive. You should call just to make sure, but im pretty sure you will be fine.

Yup. That's what happened to mine as well. It showed up as one massive paragraph and I almost cried. They said that the schools would see it formatted correctly, and though I didn't ask the schools themselves, I think it went through alright. You can call AMCAS if you want to be reassured further.

Actually, they don't see it formatted correctly. We get a large number of PSs that look like that. Don't worry about it. Yet another neurotic pre-med non-issue.

This happened to me last year... I can understand why you're freaked out but none of my interviewers ever mentioned it and I was able to get multiple acceptances so its definitely a "neurotic pre-med non-issue". Relax, good luck with your applications!

this sort of thing happens a lot. schools tend to be pretty lenient about formatting issues because they know that nothing ever comes out the way you typed it in with amcas. don't worry about it - it won't affect your chances
