I was wondering if applicants are referring to a particular dental school in their statements, or if they are writing just a general one and not specifying the dental school. also, which is better?

Unless you are applying to one, and only one school, I would not mention any schools in your personal statment. It is better to write a statement that address a broad audience than one that is tailored to a specific school. You don't want to turn anyone off - remember, you are trying to sell yourself and not another school.

i know, but someone told me that if i make copies of my personal statement , each addressed towards a specific school, it would make it more personable. although, i dont think this is how it works, don't we have to just send one personal statement to aadsas? Or could we send them multiple copies of our personal statement?>

You submit one personal statement online to AADSAS. All of your schools will read the same personal statement.

Sometimes you will be asked to write an additional essay during the admissions process by the individual schools (Arizona, Temple, etc.) so save up the school specific knowledge for those essays.

Anybody knows the word count? Mine comes out to 2 pages on MS Word.

Trim it down some then Bronco. 4500 characters is the new limit I do believe (someone correct me if I am wrong).

Excellent advice for the secondary applications.

...and, I think that the 4500 character limit includes spaces (does it?). Most applicants will probably get 700-750 words out of the 4500 character limit.

This is actually probably a good thing, although applicants may not see it that way. Keeping the statements shorter will help adcoms to not fall asleep, and it also forces the applicant to write about the most important information.

I've always informed people that an 800 word essay is the best, because it leaves a nice big white space below the essay on the AADSAS form. That white space is pleasing to the eye and looks much better than the entire 1000 words crammed into a space (on the old AADSAS forms 1000 words took up the entire available space).

   That is very true! I never thought of it that way! That gives me some reasurance - My PS is not that long (about 700-750 when done editing) - But it's interesting, to the point, and I garauntee the reader will probably want to meet me - thats what I kept in my mind the whole time:

As I'm writing - It is my goal to get the reader interested in ME and make him/her feel compelled to invite/accept me. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Gavin - I'm still working on the essay - but I was hoping you could edit it for me? I know I'm a new member here at SDN - But I would be very grateful!
