anybody remember is the personal statement required to be one page, or is this just a recommendation?

My advisor told me to do it under one page. He told me some programs wont read your PS if its longer than one page.

I have also heard that one page and a 4-5 sentence paragraph in the second would be like the maximum.

I did mine in one page and I think everyone at my school did the same.

Mine is a page and 1/3rd (about 800 words), I have plenty of interviews and some invitations were tailored to my PS. Try to keep it a page if you can but if not, don't worry too much about it.

I know I am just one PD here - but I would say keep it under a page if at all possible.

Rarely, applicants will appropriately write very long essays - any absence during medical school, any issues of substance abuse, etc.

Otherwise, if it can't be said in a page, chances are, I'm not going to read it all. I would much prefer to read a 3/4 page, succinctly well written essay than a full page one that is padded to make it a full page.
