So..I know most people don't find their calling in medicine until they have started to do rotations but.. would it hurt me if I placed an emphasis on pediatrics in my personal statement?

I've heard most people that have a specialty picked out usually end up changing by the end of medical school. So, I'd avoid saying outright that you are going into pediatrics. If you have worked with kids a lot and think that is one of your strengths, then I would mention it that way. It's okay to talk about, but don't declare it as your specialty just yet.
