Should my personal statement just be like; my reason for being a doctor is A B C? Or can I talk about my life experiences? What I have so far is how I moved back and forth between Canada and South Africa, how this changed my outlook on ideals like race, religion, etc. Basically how this changed me as a person, and made me respect my father (also a doctor) more. My respect for him basically led me to choose medicine (and the fact that I love biology and science). Is this sort of alright? I tried to find some personal statements online and they seem all the same: eg. I find medicine interesting, or I want to help people, etc. Is it alright to spend like a third of my PS talking about my life history and cultural roots and how that led to me selecting medicine?
