Hey everyone,

I just had a few questions about hte personal statment.

1) How long can it be?
2) What is best to write about? What do they look for?
3) Is it really a make or break part of the application? Can a good personal statement boost others lackluster areas of the application?

1. 4500 Characters max. This includes spaces, periods, etc.
2. Write about something that makes you a unique applicant, this usually ends up being a story about how you got into dentistry and why you believe it is best for you.
3. I honestly don't think it's a make or break and I'm pretty sure it is not going to gloss over any of your other stats. But it does give you good fodder for discussion at an interview; I believe it comes into play most during an interview honestly.

Is everyone so lazy that they just start a new threat instead of doing some SIMPLE RESEARCH?!?!?!

cmon people!👎

I must admit this thread is a bit unnecessary. There is a wealth of information on writing a PS and its level of significance.

Ill throw in my two cents though: The PS is the only part of the application you actually have control over. Everything else is all information you cant change (ie. grades, extracurriculars, LORs).

Basically, if you are wise and have any common sense, then you would realize hat the PS section is probably the most important part of your application in terms of applying, since its give you the most leverage to share and say what you want.

And let me tell you, a good PS may not help you win the game, but it can sure help you lose the game if you dont write it well. And by writing it well, I mean a minimum of 4 weeks of reviewing/editing/proofreading, and around 10 drafts before you get to your final version, at which point you still shouldnt feel completely satisfied but satisfied enough to press submit.
