So I have been looking at a lot of samples and I feel like my statement can never be as good. I say this because I can write mine well, but I feel like my experiences are just not as exciting as some other people's that I have written. How many people have been able to write a great personal statement and gain admittance even without having some specially outstanding experience? Thanks in advance.

I am only a premed but I can assure you that most people getting accepted do not have truly outstanding experiences. They just talk about what they did in a meaningful way and tie it up to why medicine.

I've read a lot of personal statements on MDApps and otherwise. They mostly suck. Yet, they still managed to get someone into top schools. Mine sucked too.

Common themes: grandma dies, inspiration from helping out Guatemalan orphans, desire to cure xxx disease cause my uncle had it. All cringe worthy. I can't imagine having to serve as an adcom. It must be boring as hell.

I've read the statements of a handful of successful applicants (solid students otherwise, all matriculated to CA schools) and their statements weren't "super exciting" or "compelling" per se, but they all genuinely reflected their personalities and answered the "why medicine?" in their own way.

Thanks for the assurances guys. I guess what you guys are saying is exactly what I mean. I am hoping that although I don't have superman's life story to talk about, I still get the job done with what I do have.
