Can I ask what some of you (those accepted/interviewed )may have discussed in your personal statements??

Well, one obvious thing is why you like dentistry... Maybe you can talk about an experience back in your childhood that got you interested in dentistry and maybe other experiences you encountered as you were getting more exposure into dentistry. There isn't really a right or wrong thing to say but just try to make it tell more about yourself... Just think of it as an opportunity to let the admissions committee get to know you as a human being adn more than just numbers and stats in your application. Seriously, just avoid trying to say what you think they want to hear or trying to come up with the right answer. Chill, relax.. Have fun with it. I know it sounds hard and I was in your same shoes askign the same questions but you'll figure out what I just said is the best way to go.

i talked about my first real exposure to dentistry (when a soccer goal post fell on my face and broke by jaw in two places and knocked a few teeth out).

then i talked a little about my research (both dental and non-dental)

also mentioned a volunteer program i started and explained why it was important to me

finally i explained a really bad quarter i had in undergrad and showed how i have improved and how i did really well in my masters program.

advise: make sure you realize the bottom line of the personal essay as well as secondary application questions: why you want to be a dentist and why you will make a good dental students, oh and why they should take you over the other applicants.

good luck, hope this helps.

i talked about:

-how i got interested.
-my observation exp.
-my dental assisting experience with the national guard and the outreach work
my unit does
-a mistake i learned from. etc

that sort of thing

I talked about how dentists make a lot of money and how women are impressed by that. It really goes along with my goals in life - sleep with as many women as possible. Dr. DeRossi at Penn gave me props for my essay and Dr. Stout at BU asked me how my pimp hand was. The answer : strong playa. At my Harvard interview, i was told that researchers are still trying to determine if more money means more booty.

Yeah, that's why it's always good if you can hook up with someone in dental school or maybe from another school in the city. That way, you know she's not a gold digger and you get dual freaking incomes. That means more money for me to spend on my own car and more money for her to buy Gucci handbags or whatever women die for.
