Anyone do it?
What apd said.I don't understand the question.
I concur, doctor.I didn't have Personal Statements that were completely different for each program, but I did have ones that were slightly different for each speciality. For example, I had one for anesthesia and one for my TY/prelim IM residencies. They were almost the same but one focused on my passion for anesth, the others for why I thought that program would help me best for anesth...blah blah blah. The PS is really a sad waste of time. Most my interviewers either read it and forgot what I said, or didn't read it. It's one of the many meaningless hoops we all jump through! Good luck 🙂
If you're asking whether you should have a separate PS for each program (so you can put the specific name of the program in a sentence like: "...and I really look forward to working in AAHMC. (aPD's Amazing Hospital and Medical Center), it;s a complete waste of time IMHO. And, if you happen to send the wrong ps to a program, it's a real bummer.
If you want to write a completely different PS to each program, specifically tailored to thier program, well, they have pills for that.
I concur, doctor.
While writing it, I kept wondering if I would get interviews if I just said....
Dear program director,
Out of consideration for your hectic schedule during this process, I am going to keep this short and sweet. During school I found that I enjoyed xxxx the most. I feel that I will be happy in this specialty for the long haul. Therefore, I want to go into xxxxx.
My CV contains a list of my accomplishments and through deductive reasoning, you will most likely be able to figure out that I would be a top notch resident.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Blesbok
