I have said it before but I think we should have a forum for social/joke/only kinda related to dentistry issues. the doctors lounge basically has their own regulars, moves a mile a minute and theyre look down on you if you arent going into medicine...

as a suggestion, could those interested in a personal's thread use www.thefacebook.com or www.orkut.com which are real meet markets?? it is not easy to make or moderate personals section. also, we want to keep the ad coms out of it as much as possible.

Sometimes I feel pathetic about how much time I spent on this site, but then I spent a few minutes reading the random threads in the lounge and I wonder about guys like kinetic and uclacrewdudue. I'll admit they're funny and I enjoy reading their commentary, but seriously, how many hours a day do they spend on this site? And why?
I'm sure if this thread gets moved there (any minute now) they'll read this and have some awesome comeback that makes me look like a fool.

I think we should have a page where you can really get to know the members of SDN, besides basic things, like gpa, DAT, and where interviewed. I think it would be fun to learn about everyones background, in many areas of life. HEe, I will start. I am 26, and a dental appliaction. I had a little too much fun, (aka booze and parties) during my undergraduate years, so I purseued my masters. I am applying this year with a masters in biology, so we will see whAT HAPPENS. i AM applying to dental school, as well as post bac programs. I am determined to make htis happen , and it will happen, it is just a matter of when. Anways, besides my academics, I model,i am very involved in kickboxing, ( training for a fight this summer), weight lifting, horse back riding, jogging, and hiking. I also love seeing movies, and just relaxing. My party phase has since subsided, except, lol, on occasion. I think I will let it rip the day I finally gain acceptance into a dental progarm. LETS HEAR FROM SOME OTHERS

The Lounge is an UNMODERATED forum. The professional forums are moderated and have a TOS that is applicable.
You all need to remember that you are one portion of the guests here. What you don't get to see is the multiple (by multiple I mean 10-15 per DAY) emails asking me to remove threads such as this one.
I don't just come by and choose to remove threads because I don't like their themes. 90% of the time I do it in response to other motivating factors.
As I've said before, I can't please everybody.
One other note: we are a non-profit and volunteer forum. Nobody gets paid. I don't get paid, Lee doesn't get paid, etc.
In order to allow us to form professional partnerships, we made the decision some time ago to limit the professional forums to professional conduct (on-topic discussions, PG-rated, etc.). Organizations would (for obvious reasons) very hesitant to associate with a forum that allows R-rated language and frank discussions about sex, drugs, etc.
The result of this has been some solid partnerships that have been formed and have resulted in increased valuable content. For example, the Opthalmology forum (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=47) which is co-hosted with eyeOrbit. I hope to form partnerships with the ADA, ADEA, or ASDA in the future. To do so we have to maintain a level of professionalism.
At the same time we realized there needed to be a place for SDNers to blow off steam and talk about whatever they wanted--so we spun the Lounge off into it's own site (http://www.drslounge.com/).
Once again, the Lounge is unmoderated. It's often very busy, but that doesn't mean you can't post there. It's a welcome relief from our pre-dental/dental stuff.
