Does anyone know if one may petition to regain a spot forfeited by not paying the deposit?

Did you ask the school if you can?
That is the best way to find out.

Use the excuse about not having money for deposit etc... etc..

Even see if they can accept you on waitlist or deferral.

Has it been a long time??? If it has been months you might not have any luck. But if it has been more recent you might be able to talk about money crunch and being broke,etc..... Either way nothing ventured...nothing gained. Call the school and plead your case.

Good luck.

A word to the wise for this cycle and the one coming up. Take the risk of losing the money and pay for the deposit when you get an acceptance. Don't wait for bigger and better things and then get caught empty handed at the end of the application cycle.

I couldn't come up with the money in time for Western's second deposit, so I just called the school and told them my situation - I needed a week's extension and they gave it to me right away. The admissions office lady was really nice to me over the phone (I was totally freaking out when I called her and told her I couldn't make the deposit, but she helped me out...)

Yeah, it has been too long and it wasn't really a money issue.
I was accepted to multiple places, picked the one closest to home and now I think I may have made the wrong decision.
