I called MY OWN dentist, and its been a week and he hasn't called me back to shadow him. He even told me once that he would let me shadow him, but only until I was a junior in college (which i am now).
I've contacted three other dentists, and they have not returned my calls. So...should I call my dentist again?

Chew on some rocks and break your teeth to hell...plenty of time to shoot the breeze with him. Cmon dude show some dedication to dentistry.

I called my dentist too and I left a message with the receptionist. He never answered me back so I waited until I had an appointment with him. I asked him then and he said yes...but he didn't even know what shadowing was. I shadowed him for about 4 hours and then that was it. It seemed like he didn't want me there so I just looked for another dentist. GL!

Did you mean not until you were a junior in college?

Yes, I would call him again. Maybe ask the receptionist if email is more his style? Good luck.

I found meeting face to face to ask about shadowing had much better results, especially with other dentists besides my own

You need to knock some sense into him. Find his route to work, rear-end him, and pull him out of his window. A couple swift kicks to his ribs might change his mind.

Go to someone else! I called 20+ dentists and finally found 3 awesome dentists to shadow. If you are having trouble with 1...where are you going to get your LOR from? Just call everyone in your area like I did. Good luck!

I am not trying to be a smart Arss, but would you call someone for a job? Except for your dentist, the others didn't know you well or if at all. It is not very personable or profession to ask something like that over the phone.

Put together a nice outfit - dress pants (not jeans), dress shirt and tie, a nice polo shirt and dress shoes. Visit the dental offices in person and speak to the dentists there. Now, it is possible to call ahead of time to see when the dentist would be available to speak with you, but in no way is is professional to ask them over the phone. Why would they agree to have you shadow if you are not motivated to come and speak with them in person? You will most likely get a better response form dentists if you visit their office, talk to them about dentistry and eventually ask them if it would possible to observe them in action.

Again, don't call. Visit them. Let them get to know you before you ask. you will more likely get success of a dentist agreeing to allow you to visit them that way. plus, it gives you one on one time asking other dentists their opinion of their profession.
