PGY-1 Elective Possible in Australia?

I'm really hoping to spend my 4 week elective in Australia, and was looking into the gold coast area. Has anyone had any experience as an intern/resident on an international elective in Australia & at which sites ? I had heard that many hospitals are closed to international residents/there is a lot of red tape. Thanks!
