There are a lot of information about Prelim IM or Transitional Year to start a residency.
Does somebody know if it is possible to do preliminary surgery as PGY-1 for advanced PM&R programs?

Most often, this is the case when someone bails out of sugery residency, and uses PGY1 to start PM&R or similar.

Otherwise yeah, you can do it, but why would you voluntarily?

Yes, you guys are right. It is not easy to choose it voluntarily. 🙂
I just want to consider different variants.

I know of at least one person who tried to match ortho, ended up scrambling into a prelim surgery year, then ended up in PM&R.

There are easier pathways.
