To all applicants:

There will be a PGY-2 level residency position open in plastic surgery in an Integrated Model Program at Albany Medical Center starting on or about July 1st 2009 . Suitable candidates will complete the remainder of a six year training program leading to qualification for the ABPS certification process.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of preliminary or categorical surgical training.

Please email a letter of intent with your current CV to Phyllis Sperry at [email protected]

Be careful about applying to the Albany PSU. It is quite malignant. You need to find out what happened to the former resident before this position became available. I think they already have an internal candidate!

anyone know if it's too late to apply to this position?

I was called for an interview early this morning. The interviews are next week. The administrative assistant said that they had over 200 applications for one spot. That is amazing! Plastic surgery is very competitive! From talking to her, it seems like they only have one interview day; therefore I have to make plans for that day alone; they had no other days for interview.

I called them today. It is ridiculous that they no longer take applications. Why is plastic surgery so competitive. This is ridiculous. Apparently very few people were called for interviews.

That is not surprising. We get to choose highly competitive candidates from a pool of outstanding applicants for interviews. I thought Albany already settled on a resident for Dan's spot?

I heard that Albany may have an internal candidate for Dan's spot; this is from a credible source; however I did not confirm it with the administrative assistant. It is awful that they contacted about 50 applicants to interview for one spot eventhough they may already have one appliant in mind. It costs money to travel to NY and then realize that the chances of being picked are very slim

I have it on an even more reliable source that the internal candidate DOES NOT have a lock on the position. They will do what most programs would do in this situation: Take the best qualified candidate from the applicant pool. Good luck to all those who get an interview.

That's just what they do. I interviewed there during the regular match season and 40 of us (20/day) were going for that one spot.

To all applicants:

The interview process for the vacant PGY 2 position is complete.

We are no longer accepting applications for the positions.

Thanks to all the applicants who did apply.

Please refrain from sending your CV or applications.
