So i collected some advice from some residencts and got this list: Anybody care to reiew or rank these in order of utility (usefulkness) for a PGY 1 /2

Thanks

1. THE WASHINGTON MANUAL - NEUROLOGY SURVIVAL GUIDE Dave Rengarchary

2. THE 5 MINUTE NEUROLOGY CONSULT Leonard Gomella

3. NEUROLOGY FOR THE BOARDS james Gever

4. NEUROLOGY: MCGRAW-HILL SPECIALTY BOARD REVIEW SERIES Nizar Souveh

5. PRACTICAL NEUROLOGY JOSE BILLER 2009 THIRD EDITION Jose Biller

I never read the Washington manual or the 5 minute consult so I cannot comment on the usefulness of those books. I did have the MGH handbook of neurology which hasnt been touched either.

For a thorough understanding and clinical application Neuroanatomy through clinical cases by Hal Blumenfeld is by far the best book.

Depending on your institution, Bradley or Adam & Victor's or Merritt's may be preferred as a more detailed text.

Ultimate Review for the Neurology Boards
Hubert H. Fernandez, MD, Stephan Eisenschenk, MD, Anthony T. Yachnis, MD, Michael S. Okun, MD is good for board review.

Well these are my 2 cents. Good Luck.

Personally, I would set those board review books aside for now. They aren't designed to make you a good neurologist, they are designed to consolidate information to make you a good test-taker. Tables of mucopolysaccharidoses are not particularly useful for a PGY-1.

Blumenfeld is good, Patten is great for routine reading, and Adams/Victor can't be beat for reference, in my opinion. Only certain styles of people tend to use the handbooks, so you have to decide if you want to use one. I should probably be plugging the MGH Handbook, but I think I opened it twice in all of residency. It just weighed down my man-purse dork-bag.

I have question about what to read in PGY1. Since the service is busy, won't have time to read so-called bible for neuro. But still want to be prepared for the PGY2 (first neuro year), any good one to suggest?
