i'm faced with a nagging problem.
i will be completing internship soon and would need to take a hiatus of a year for personal reasons, so it seems likely that a PGY2 spot will not be kept open for me. the morale of the residents at my program is rather low and at least a few leave every year. i'm torn between resigning (with the hope of getting a good spot elsewhere a year down the line) and gritting my teeth and staying through the next few years. my question is, would a year's hiatus and the fact that i'd probably resign considerably decrease my chances of resuming residency later? 😕
i'm still mulling over this. i'd love to hear from the seniors at the forum.
thanks for listening.
