pharm prereqs / is it for me?

Hey guys,

I applied to UB as a business major and got in. After working in a retail pharmacy for 6 months, i've finally realized i might want to do pharmacy instead. I currently have 15 credit hrs. Should i throw in General Chem to see if it's for me? I want to be sure i can handle the workload first. I like the aspect of working in a pharm, but im not sure if i can handle the intense load of chem/bio. Or should i just not worry about it, and just end up taking another semester of prereqs before i apply to pharmacy school?

I wouldn't advise taking more than 15 credits for your first semester. You need to feel out college a bit to see if you can handle more. You can always drop another class and add chem, but you would probably want to speak with an advisor first. Are you currently signed up for bio? Taking two sciences with labs right at that start can be hard too, but you will eventually probably have to.

Hey sorry about my first post being alittle confusing. I did alittle more research of my own, and if anyone can confirm, it seems like UB is strictly a 2+4 program. It says i can declare pre-pharm as my major when i enroll or within my 1st semester and i will get into the pharm program gurantee if i have a 3.5gpa. Yea i will call my advisor first thing tomarrow morning. Is it too late to declare myself as a prepharm major and change my whole schedule? I looked around the site and all the pharm prereq courses i need still have slots. If not, should i just the non-general, business pre-reqs and grab chem / and any of the other classes i need for pharm?

ps. is the early assurance also really "guaranteed"? for example says pcat is not required, but can be taken for 'safety". Or it says i have to still take an interview, to make sure i am a good applicant for pharm school.
