Hello!

I'm currently a senior (human nutrition major), but I'm taking a gap year to finish my pre-reqs and squeeze in some pharm tech experience. I haven't started working as a pharm tech yet, mainly because I keep thinking I won't be able to balance school and work. But I'm really hoping to start next semester!

I just wanted to know- what's the recommended amount of experience that you need in order to be a competitive applicant?
I can have maximum 1 year of experience before I apply to schools and maximum total of 1.5 years of experience.
Would that be enough?

If not, what are some ways that I can make up for the lack of experience?

Also, if there are any advices regarding pharm tech interview and/or pharm tech job in general- it would be very much appreciated. 🙂

Having tech experience is very important. It has helped me greatly with knowing brand/generics and what they are used for. Im a P2 but have been working in a hospital for 3 years. I cannot believe the P4's that come through who have never had a job and still dont know their drugs. I dont know how they plan on getting a job post graduation. Also when you do get a tech/intern job...dont be one of those people that work 1 day a month just so they have some fluff to throw on their resume.

What would you say a good frequency for working is during pharmacy school? If I get a job I don't think I would go in more than once a week, depending on how hard classes are.

The P2 intern that works at my pharmacy works twice per week, about 10 hours total during school, and full time during breaks. When I start pharmacy school in the fall I'm going to try and work about twice per week, but I'm already used to juggling full time school, and almost full time work.
