Pharm Tech in High School?

Hello, I'm currently a high school student planning to apply to an 0+6 program straight out of high school. I read somewhere that someone started working as a pharm tech when they were 16. (I always thought that one needed a high school diploma or at least be 18 to be hired as a tech. 😕 ) I'm interested in getting a part-time pharmacy related job right now to improve my chances of being accepted.

My question is anyone know any places that hire high schoolers as pharm techs, or anything else pharm related? I also plan to volunteer at a hospital. Thanks.

check ur state website for requirements to become a pharm tech. IN cali, u have to have a HS diploma+ pass an exam or have had extensive training.

Depends on the state. In IL you can be 16 and work as a pharm tech as long as you are in HS.

I started working in a hospital pharmacy when I was 16, maybe that's where you heard it from; I believe I may have posted that somewhere on here before. Like Karm said, I was in HS and living in Illinois.

I work with a guy who started when he was 16 (he's 17 now). We're both techs in a pharmacy in Iowa.

I started working as a tech when I was 16 ( I am now 17), and I live in Indiana. I had to get a special exemption from the State Board. So, basically all I had to do was submit some letters of recommendation, and say I felt confident that I could do a good job. They monitored my progress, and when they felt they had made a good decision, they decided to move me up from a Tech-in-Training, to an actual Tech. It all depends on your state requirements though....

I think it depends on the State-I live in CT and became State certified at 16 as a pharm tech through CVS-
