Pharmaceutical patenting system

Should the pharmaceutical patenting system's exclusitivty period be shortened, and thus not allow brand name innovators to keep their patents as long?

What are some arguments for and against this? Anyone know where I can find information to help me out?

Well what ideas have you come up with so far? A thread was just started by kbv that will help get you thinking about this subject.
I was curious what info was out there too so I just googled the subject matter and found some interesting articles.
I know people do not like being told "just google/wikipedia it" but most of the time, that is the best thing to do. The info is all out there and relatively easy to find.
