Hi I’m a new grad pharmacist and I just got an offer with Walgreens as an overnight floater. I’ve only gotten down to doing the drug test. Training starts next week. But I also got a job offer from my county which has higher pay and closer to where I live. The only concern is that they don’t have an official start date and may take 2 weeks - 4 months to get me a place.

I don’t want to start and offend Walgreens only to quit right after if job no 2 finds me a place soon.
Any advice on what I should do? Has there been anyone in a similar position? If I was a day floater I would consider working weekends but night shift??

Take walgree's offer. Quit when county finds you the position. Wag won't miss you. They won't even remember you.

What state?

Honestly, civil service takes a while if at all during this time, and county funding is dependent on federal funding. I'd take the Walgreens job in most cases and just resign (even if pissing them off) because they'd do the same to you. If it's 2 weeks, maybe not, but usually government jobs take a while. And you can resign on pay grounds showing your salary and they can't complain too much.

I thought Walgreens closed all 24 hours stores for Corona? Or maybe it is region specific?

Anyway OP do what’s best for you. Walgreens will not hesitate to drop you like a bag of rocks if they need to.

They closed the doors to patients but everyone can still use drive thru. Pharmacy ours haven’t changed, even at non 24 stores.

OP, start with Walgreens and put in your two weeks when the government finds you a spot. Given the current state of affairs, it might take some time.

I feel like you’re going to burn wags either way so you might as well take the job, then give two weeks notice once the county offer has firmed up.

Just make up some reason that it just wasn’t working out/not what you expected.

Wags will do it to you in a heartbeat, so don’t hesitate. Good luck!
