Simple and maybe obvious question, so I apologize if it's dumb - if you have a mental illness like OCD, or maybe trouble sleeping, or something like that, and have an RX for Klonopin or other such drug... can you still be a pharmacist, or is that frowned upon (or worse)? I'm a little troubled by the idea of trying to be accurate while using clonazepam, but I don't know if I can make it without any meds... Thanks. 🙂

of course dude, it's not as if you're taking so much you cant function in life. if you can pass pre pharm and pharm school, you'll be fine.

Your condition is no different than if you had a heart condition. Can you do the job? Id the answer is yes, you obtain your medication legally, and your are not impaired by the medication, it's nobody's business what you take.

The nice thing about being in health care is I think less people are stigmatized against mental health issues. Most seem to realize that having a mental health problem is no different than any other medical condition.

In fact, in my opinion, it's better that you're on the medication and doing something to make your life better than suffering through whatever problem you have and reducing your capacity to work.

That said, it really is no one's business what you take, like Old Timer says. Although there's a thread about not getting your prescriptions filled at your home pharmacy in the pre-pharm section. Everyone seemed to agree that if it was anything you felt uncomfortable with your co-workers knowing you were taking, it's fine to go to another pharmacy or pharmacy chain.

Thanks all! 🙂 I feel much better. I have no trouble functioning in daily life, so I figure it'll be okay - I just didn't know if maybe pharmacy was different. Now for the real challenge... calculus... 🙁 I hate math.

All sorts of pharmacists are OCD; one of the best I ever worked with was, and he didn't have much of a life, but he was an awesome pharmacist (being a bit obsessive actually serves you well).

As well, and this is a bit paradoxical, a number of pharmacists are ADHD. Again, not a problem, for reasons already stated by previous posters.

but just a word of caution, especially if you work retail -- there is a lot of stress and abuse in a pharmacist's daily work. You might want to make sure that those things are not triggers or exacerbate your condition. If you lose your health, all the money in the world don't do you any good.
