Hey guys.

Since it has been impossible to find a hospital job as a pharmacist without prior hospital experiences,
I've been looking into agencies. (which also requires prior hospital experiences, many times)

There are too many in NY, I cannot seem to figure out which ones to apply to.

Any suggestions?

Any input on how to apply for hospital jobs, know-how, and/or your personal experience with agencies is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!!

I have stopped working for agencies this year but have worked for 3 in the past, all west coast organizations. Two of the agencies I found through www.indeed.com and one of the agencies contacted me via Linked-In.

Hospitals do not want to start at scratch training someone when they are short staffed and trying to fill a short notice vacancy. Because of this, most staffing agencies are not going to hire anyone for hospital prn work unless they have hospital/IV experience. I have staffed retail and hospital as a prn pharmacist and even with past and current clinical/staff experience in hospitals it is more difficult to get a feel for things as a satffer in a hospital vs retail, in my opinion.

Thank you for your input. I agree with you on how difficult it is to find a position at hospitals,, as you said even with the past or current experiences. I know it is a long shot for someone like me, NO hospital experience.

I only found out I wanted to work at hospitals during APPE. I do wish I knew earlier, then I would have tried to intern at hospitals instead of retail.

If you don't mind sharing which agencies it was that you worked with, I would really appreciate it. If you don't feel comfortable, I still appreciate your input.

Thank you!!

tact medical staffing offered me an overnight position in brooklyn like a year and a half ago. it was about the same time my boy hooked me up with my current job at an independent pharmacy. I turned down the staffing thing quite honestly because of the bad things i hear. The reason for the staffing agencies is because they don't want to hire real employees at the hospital because they want to avoid paying any type of benefits to them. So basically, you'll be subject to the same work, same stress, same bs except with absolutely no benefits. plus, you will have to renew your contract every so and so months so there's no guarantee that your job will be lined up for you again. so to recap, same hard work, same stress, no benefits, no job security. also, they follow some type of payment procedure that's extremely confusing and i hear many people complain about lost wages. i would only do it if there was absolutely no other choice.

if you wanna go through with it anyways though, message me and i can give you the contact information of the lady that handled finding me the brooklyn job.
