Maybe people like Aznfarmerboi need to start submitting articles to MSN, Yahoo, and the like that talk about how saturated pharmacy is. If the articles get published, then maybe colleges will sit down and think twice before opening a new pharmacy school.

Students who graduate from pharmacy schools in saturated areas will become very angry at their schools whenever they can't find a job... and the backlash might have enough of a ripple effect that it will stop other schools from opening. (The attack against the London bankers was pretty aw-inspiring. :meanie:)

That's the point. If it can happen to lawyers, then it can happen to us. Imagine going to law school and having to settle to work as a glorified paralegal. I don't see this happening to pharmacy in the very near future, but it's definitely a possibility.

On the bright side, if salaries do stagnate or even possibly decrease (not likely), there will likely be less of a demand for people to go to pharmacy school.

PharmD is becoming like the Computer Science BS that was during the dot com boom/bust

As much as I love to doom and gloom, i strongly believe that market and economic forces will ultimately balance things out... that is i hope

The major difference is that people are usually not that as much into debt just earning BS in Computer Science especially if it is from their state school. And if they cannot use this degree, then they can simply take extra classes and apply to professional schools. Someone earning a PharmD usually as tens of thousands of dollars in debt, even if they go to their state school. I remember my undergrad school, Central Florida, made a qualifying exam specifically for computer science undergraduate majors that only about 25% passed on the foundation courses in computer science (discrete math, and the introductory algorithms class), to limit the number of students entering the major. This was instigated in about 1997, when EVERYONE was trying to switch their major to this. I came to the school quite a bit after right during the bust, but everyone told me about how many unqualified people were pouring into the major then. You had unlimited attempts, but if most people couldn't pass after two to three tries, they usually switched their major anyway!! This was because it was limited to one attempt every semester (fall, spring, etc.) www.cs.ucf.edu/registration/foundationfaq.html . The discrete math was the section most people couldn't pass because it was proof-based!

Funny! I hope this position has some up side. Start at 40k with the possibility of moving up. How sad if you are a lawyer and this is the only job you could get.

Nothing is impossible if we continue to ignore the problems our profession faces.
