Hello everyone,

I need some advices about pharmacist jobs. So, i am a new grad and got my license in Fl 1-2 months ago. As you all aware, the job market is pretty tight for pharmacists nowsaday, especially in FL. Due to family issue, i can't relocate to other states or move far to other cities within the state. I had both hospital and retail experiences as an intern during my pharmacy school, but those companies are not available in my hometown.
I have been very anxious and impatient because most of the jobs i applied, denied my applications due to my lack of experience as a rph. Then, some of my friends advised me to apply for a pharmacy intern or tech in a pharmacy 1st and eventually find the rph opportunity to apply for in that company. Do you think this idea would be working out?????? And if so, how could i state on my CV and cover letter that i'm already a licensed rph but looking for the intern/tech job.

This idea sounds really crazy but please give me some thoughts!!! If you are working at any pharmacies, can you ask your manager about this issue too? I will be very much appreciated 🙂)

Thank you very much,
Ttn

Have your tried looking on craigslist, relief agencies, or just going to independents directly?
Hi there,

Yes, so far i have contacted 2-3 agencies but they mostly sent me emails about jobs at other states. I did call the indepedent pharmacies around but no luck yet. Do you think that i should go to meet them in person?
I will try out craglist. So far i've been using indeed and monster to search for the jobs.
But can you give me some thoughts about my question too?

Thank you 🙂

I sincerely hope your friends aren't pharmacists, because you can't work as a technician or intern if you are a registered pharmacist.

I had two friends find jobs on Craigslist. A lot more independents list jobs on there compared to monster/indeed, it seems. I would go in person to local established pharmacies and let them know that you are willing to work nights, holidays, and weekends.

It's a long process, sorry to heat that you have to go through with it.

What types of family issues do you have?

I sincerely hope your friends aren't pharmacists, because you can't work as a technician or intern if you are a registered pharmacist.

Why are you unable to work as a technician or intern if you are a registered pharmacist?

Thank you for your advice. I will try out anything I can and stay optimistic. 🙂

Thank you for your input. But can you elaborate more on your thought?

The job market is tough in NY as well. So you're not the only one having problems looking for a job.

Hello there,

Thank you for your concern. My family issue is very personal and not easy to talk about. However, my parents said if I couldn't find a job until beginning of next year, I could think about relocation.
Do you think that being unemployed for 4-5 months would put me into a disadvantage? I often hear ppl saying if you waited too long, you would be less likely to get a job.

Yup, i am totally aware of it. If you stay unemployed for a couple months to a year, will it put you more at risk of not having a job??

I'm not sure unfortunately

Have you tried to find a per-diem job? Those tend to be less competitive.

Yes, i applied for a few of them that are available in or near my hometown. The hospitals tend to turn down my applications. I'm still waiting from some retails and long term care for their responses.

It's hard to imagine someone with retail and hospital intern experience not being able to find a job. How did your classmates do?

Hi there,

It's hard to imagine too but it's something that is expected when supply's over demand. All the jobs that i am applying are always asking for pharmacist experiences or have i worked for them before. So it is easy for them to turn me down. Most of my friends got their jobs because they stay with their companies when they were interns or they move to rural areas. For my case, it's kinda impossible to do so.

Keep searching, I'm certain a retail will pick you up soon enough; most likely, as a per diem first.

Perhaps, have an old classmate push some buttons for you?

Ya, they said they would do that when any positions open 🙂

Time to summon your waiting-game skills.

If you applied to a CVS, I suspect they might be the first to call you, given that they loose pharmacists like a leaking container of water.

Whether or not it's legal for you to work as a technician or intern with an active RPh license is beside the point. If I were a DOP or PIC looking at a perspective pharmacist's resume that showed them working as a tech or intern I'd have to pass on giving them an interview. It seems to me the best option is to change your family issue that prevents you from moving away from your current location. Regardless of your field of endeavor you have to go where the work is.

Dont degrade yourself and work as a Intern/Tech. Screw that, people who do that are looking for free labor and playing this game with you. If you have experience people will contact you, speaking from first hand experience in just getting a job.

Hi there,

Thank you for your input. I'm very hesitated with that intern/tech idea as well.

Hi there,

Thank you for your encouragement. I'll keep it in mind 🙂 Are you a new grad too? How long did it take you to get a job after being licensed?

Can anyone list such relief agencies and proffer any advice on how to apply/taylor resume for them?

Have you had someone look at your resume and CV you're submitting? It sounds like there's possibly something wrong with those if you have intern experience in these settings and not getting calls.

You shouldn't apply to jobs in my opinion. Ask who the district manager is and give him/her a call.

Hello there,

I had a pharmacy resident looked at my CV during one of my rotations. Since I posted my question on this forum, I have found a prn/part time job at an independent pharmacy. I am applying for other jobs at this time.

Yup, CVS did give me an offer as a floater but somehow, they took it back after few hours talking to me. They told me they did not need to hire me anymore. I was very disappointed.
Will it become a concern for me in the future when I apply for CVS again?????

Keep applying and don't give up

CVS is garbage, you don't want to work there

how is it worse than walgreens, rite aid, etc.?

Does this mean that you still don't have a job still?!

They offered you a job, before they talked to you.....then after talking to you, they revoked the offer? Um, yes, that seems concerning that they would revoke an offer already made. What were you talking about? You need to figure out what you said wrong, so you don't make that mistake again in the future.
