Is there anyone who owns or knows someone who owns a pharmacy that is willing to share their experience and offer advice about what it took to from school to starting the business. Is the reward worth it? I believe I have found my calling in medicine but for me owning a business and "self-employment" is even more important than the career field. However, I would like to be able to combine being a business owner with a field I have a passion for. Thanks.

Join the NCPA message board here. There are lots of resources, and consider joining your NCPA chapter at your school. There are still possibilities to make it.

go for it, reimbursements are as bad as people make them out to be. If you arent happy with your margin then you are running your business corrcectly. I started my own pharmacy a year ago, graduated two years ago and everything is going well and profit is good. Rewards are greater than you can ever get at a chain. Good thing is that if you ever want to get out you can sell and make good money at the chains or hospitals. But dont let the nay sayers discourage you. Indpendendents are still that largest "chain" even if you combine all of the actual chains together

j/k

what he said...🙂

I work for a community independent and I assure you the profit is good! I too will be attempting to make it on my own after I graduate. The benefits FAR outweigh the bad stuff, even if I make less owning my own business. Go for it and keep the independents alive!
