Hello, I want to ask a question about the possible interaction between the chemical called allicin contained in garlic and marijuana.

As you guys probably already know, the chemical called allicin contained in raw garlic has antibacterial properties that can fight infections and inflammations. I'm currently eating raw garlic everyday in order to fight a infection. I read on webmd that garlic/allicin interacts with certain drugs that are changed by the liver, specifically the Cytochrome p450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and Cytochrome p450 2E1 (CYP2E1) liver enzymes.

I read that marijuana is also affected by the Cytochrome p450 system, specifically the CYP2C 1and CYP3A4 enzymes. I read that when marijuana is ingested, those two enzymes would metabolize THC. Does this mean that garlic and marijuana have a possible interaction since they both are affected by the CYP3A4 enzyme? Or am I understanding it wrong?

Would ingesting marijuana reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotic in the garlic? Or would it potentiate the garlic's antibiotic effects? I looked up possible interactions for allicin and marijuana but couldn't find any so that's why I came here. Also, would the garlic have any effect on the marijuana high?

last question, would smoking marijuana have any effect on the cytochrome p450 liver enzymes? My guess is that it wouldn't since it's not being digested, but I'm not really sure.

Thanks, I appreciate any help as i'm trying to find out if these two have any negative or positive interactions.

Last time I checked into garlic, the cyp450 interaction was not relevant unless extracts/capsules were consumed (even then it was a weak interaction, worth being aware of with warfarin). So unless new data are out there, minimal cyp effects expected.

Smoking anything will likely induce cyp1a2 - unclear relevance given the much lower PAH burden of MJ smoking vs cigarette smoking (on average).

I think this would be more appropriate in the Witch.D. forum. It's been awhile since I filled a script for garlic 1 clove PO TID x 7d for infection.

Unfortunately, there is minimal to almost none research on marijuana.

This is not true and is a common misconception. Not much done in the States. Mostly in Israel. Check out Americans for Safe Access website. There are hundreds of studies. This is yet another area we have fallen behind in.

do ppl taking marijuana really care about garlic? u should really not be a healthcare major. your mindset will only encourage drug abuse.

if i were to ask about the interactions between garlic and alcohol, would you have said the same thing?

LOL.

I'm going to point out the second most hilarious thing about your post:

You assumed this one punch man guy was anything more than a Google scholar trying to get a free answer to whatever argument he's currently engaged in on 420blazersinfedoras.org
