Hello all, my 1st post here. A small intro to let u guys know where I am at right now.

I am a 4th yr econ major at UC Davis and I want to go to pharm. school when im done here. (5th yr next yr. yay!) I changed my mind about economics a yr ago and its too late to change out so I'll just finish it out. anyways, enough about me. I have a few questions about pharmacy schools.

To be honest, I am not a great student in science courses but I am hanging in there barely. Few C's, a C+ and a B in my first few sciences courses. So obviously, USC, UOP, and the CA's schools are out of the question. (which sucks cause I'm a CA guy since birth) but I have decided I am willing to relocate ANYWHERE in the USA for school. so I'm trying to see if you guys can give me a few schools (or as many schools as you can think of) that are the "easiest" to get into. Are there any pharm schools that are known to be a "easy" school to get into. Or which schools did you guys pick as your "back up"? I know no school is by ANY means easy to get into but u get the picture.

yes, I know pharm schools are getting VERY competitive and NOTHING is easy. I want to work as hard as I can but I need to know which schools are realistically my best chances to get into so I can start working towards those school's pre-req.s As many of you know, different schools require different pre-req's. Any info would be great and appreciated.

Thanks guys. and i know there are a few UCD grad's here so if you can PM me, or email me at [email protected], I have a few questions. Thanks again.

Don't throw in the towel yet d@mmitt!! I got into ucsf and my gpa was waaaay below their average.

As far as easier schools in Cali don't forget about Western U in pomona. I think that'll become a really good program in a few years. They have some great faculty.

You've got an ace in the hole in your econ background. I'd almost kill to have that. I wanna go into pharm econ policy so there you go, but you could spin your aspirations that way and make yourself a great candidate. It's all in the essay and your experience.

Do you have something under your belt as far as your senior thesis or research in econ? I'd use that and spin it towards pharmacy. I understand this might not be your intention at the moment, but why not get accepted and go from there.

Start exposin yourself to pharmacy, more than just this board (you can't write on you app or cv that you 'like sdn')

Get your grades up!!! Demonstrate that once you found your calling you were balls out about making it happen.

USC cand UCSF love mover-and-shaker types. I know peeps in my class and friends at ucsf that are definitely gonna be leaders in the field and it's not bc of their grades or study habits (oft times it's the exact opposite).

I know it's really competitive this year. I have a friend waited at SC that i thought was a shoo-in, but i can also see how he didn't attack his app w/the gusto it merited.

make a f'in plan and then follow through on it.

wow. that sounds like a Bill Parcell's pep-talk. (Dallas games on right now btw)

anyways, the reason why i want to get into pharmacy was because I am an entrepreneur at heart and I didn't know what field to do business in. Then a pharm tech was in my class and it clicked. even though I just read a thread about how its VERY VERY difficult to be a pharmacist and own your own pharmacy (but hey, its worth a shot). Now, I will admit taking chemistry and bio for the first time in 4-5 yrs was a shocker and hence the C's. However, this past quarter, I got my first B in chem. and got the hang of the studying load for sci. courses. With o-chem and microbiology next qtr, I am pretty excited (yes, excited for o-che) to get started.

now as far as getting myself more experienced in the field besides on this board, what can I do? I did an internship this past summer at Rite Aid pharmacy and it wasn't bad at all considering its busy work with no pay. what else can I do as far as hands-on experience?

by the way, I don't think I am required to have a sr. thesis or any research as an econ. undergrad. major so I don't know about that. but any suggestions are fine. I'm willing to work more than I am required for my major to get ahead.

But my biggest concern is which schools I should apply to. I have a feeling I will barely get to a 3.0 GPA in cum. when I'm done. After this June, I will have completed a lot of the "bare minimum" courses like gen bio, chem, o-che, etc. and i need to get into the detailed pre-req's.

my only heads up is I am a member of a business fraternity and am the comm. service chair who organizes all service events. (yes, everyone loves comm. service) 🙂
