Hi! I am posting this for my friend who isn't a member of SDN. He recently got accepted to a pharmacy program. He was really excited about this acceptance until he heard that his school of choice is not the one that will provide him with the opportunities he needs for this future goals. He is wondering if he were to attend this school, whether it is possible for him to transferred to another one that is better suited for him after his first year (also a 4 year program).

Only about 1/3 of schools take transfers. And then you often need a letter from your current dean and to declare your reasons for transfer. There is also no guarantee that all the coursework will match up with courses at the new school. It's possible but certainly nothing to count on.

if this program doesn't suit his needs maybe he shoulder defer his spot and reapply to programs he likes better next year?

We had our very first ever transfer student my 1st year and I think she came due to fiance relocation. But she had stellar grades and an incredible leadership history and that's part of why they took her.

Very hard to transfer, I personally only know of one student who transferred pharmacy schools.

We had 2 transfer students from Howard University in our class. They had to repeat their 1st year instead of transferring into the 2nd year.
