I am considering to apply to schools in Canada. Could anyone give me information about the system over there? And how could i obtain my liscence in the US if I graduate from a school in Canada? Thanks a lot.

The US system and the Canadian system seem to differ in that those who complete the pharmacy degree in BC (British Columbia) have to do an additional 1500 hours in California, then take the NAPLEX and the CPJE. I've spoken to a few recruiters who do get bombarded with requests when they visit UBC, but the additional hours seems to be a deterrent for some people. we have been considering moving up to BC after I graduate, but then again, with the amount of student loans I'll have, it may not be reasonable to go to work in Canada for ~$40k ($CDN) /year.

So far there are no reciprocity agreements btwn the US and Canada, but that's not to say that will not happen. (But with the whole drama going on about "Canadian drugs", I don't think this will happen too soon.)

I would check with the state you are from, and see what requirements they have for 'foreign trained' pharmacists. Sometimes it's a matter of working for a few years as an intern (again,) and then taking the state boards.

gl!

40k/year in BC is wrong.

Earnings
Median annual wage and salary earnings of pharmacists in 2002 were $77,050. The middle 50 percent earned between $66,210 and $87,250 a year. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $54,110, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $94,570 a year. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of pharmacists in 2002 were as follows:

Grocery stores $78,270
Health and personal care stores 76,800
General medical and surgical hospitals 76,620

Where the heck do you get things like 40k/year, I mean really.

That article is taken word for word from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook. In other words, these are not Canadian salaries.

Yeah, after actually reading through it I noticed, it was listed as /canada/ which through me off. Anyway, I can tell you that pharmacist salaries in BC / Western Canada are much higher than 40k/year. Sorry about the bad link.

I am just going by what people have been telling me- if the numbers are larger- excellent, that would be fantastic, esp. since the quality of life up there is so amazing! I totally didn't mean to annoy you or anything- sorry!
