I am currently an undergrad at Hofstra University in Long Island. I am just taking all my necessary chemistry and bio courses along with some of the other requirements for most pharmacy schools like Speech and Economics. I planned at first to go to California for pharmacy school so I was not aiming for a bachelor's degree because UCSF does not require one, so was just getting my pre-req's done. However, now I have decided to stay in New York. I was thinking between Touro College in the city and St. John's, however I could not get too much information on Touro's standing in the pharmacy school rankings. I understand that Touro requires a bachelor's, do you recommend that I just get the bachelor's at Hofstra? Could anyone give some input on the comparisons between these two schools for a Pharm D. program?

first of all, stjohns is a 6 year program which means you would b taking ur pre-reqs there...buy seems like you already have! touro is such a new school i dont have any information bout it. Y dont u look into long island...(maybe its too late!) they accept some transfer students. There is also UB...but then again ur not livin in NYC ...ull b upstate! gud luck!

It sounds like you want to stay in the NYC area so you options would be Touro, LIU, and St. Johns. Touro is your best bet as a transfer. St. John's only takes their own undergrads, and LIU pretty much does as well unless you have above a 3.8 and > 90 PCAT.

If money is no object, either of these schools will give you a good education and are well known schools in the tri-state area regarless of rank.

I'd recommend you look into buffalo and albany as well since tuition would be much cheaper, not to mention the cost of living as well. New York Pharm. D. Programs have become incredibly competetive, so keep an open mind to schools in other states as well.

i agree with Rockinacoustic. your best bet would probably be touro but even then, you should be aware that the program is still very new so they currently have candidate status for accreditation. they will be eligible to be accredited after their first class graduates, which might or might not be important to you. i also would urge you to look into albany or buffalo if you are willing to leave the city area

You really need to be willing to move. UB is the best of all the schools mentioned, you will get instate tuition, and the cost of living... well that is no comparison.
