About to be done with school and i'm having a hard time figuring out where the best place to work as a pharmacy tech would be?
Any ideas?😕

Don't know if you have any experience, but yes any place that will take you.

I laugh because I pretty much had the same question last year. Yeah... tech positions are actually pretty hard to get hired. So you're lucky if you seriously get offered one. I'm not quite sure how you got certified but if you just took a test, your chances of being hired are actually pretty low. A lot of techs take actual tech courses. So obviously pharmacies are going to take a tech with actual training than someone who just passed a test. If you have experience or training, that's great!

As far as which field... anywhere that will accept you is a good place. Retail tends to be the most common though.

It took me over a year to find my initial technician job, so first and foremost good luck with the job hunt!

As far as the BEST place to work as a technician, that's undoubtedly a hospital, but as a new technician with no experience your chances of getting into a hospital for your first job are slim to none. My advice is to submit applications to retail pharmacies absolutely everywhere you can think of, and actually go around to the pharmacies themselves and ask to speak to the pharmacy manager so you can introduce yourself and make that contact. That's what eventually worked for me.

It took me 3 years to finally land a tech job. I got PTCB and state certified in 2008, constant phone calls, resume drop offs, and networking. After landing my first tech job, I was able to find tech jobs in 4 other pharmacies. So yeah. work at the first one that hires you! dont worry about the pay, even if it;'s like minimum wage(which I highly doubt will happen).

You are after the EXPERIENCE! not the MONEY!

I've met a fellow interviewee at one of my schools who said he turned down a tech job becuse it was only paying 12$/hr. now he is regretting that decision.

Oh yeah. GOOD LUCK

The higher the better, right?

I'm sure hospital is pretty cool but I think working at a compounding pharmacy rocks too. I know people think compounding only makes drugs for people with allergies to common medicine ingredient etc... but compounding actually fills in drug shortages as well.

But yeah... anywhere that will hire you is a good start.
