I'm studying for pharmacy tech exam.
(I'm using Mosby's book)
In Illinois, I think I need pharmacy tech license to be certified.
So, is this mean I have to have pharmacy tech license to take PTCB exam?
Or can I skip the "license process" and take the exam to become
certified pharmacy tech?

Also, in the Mosby's book, what are the things or chapters that I should focus on?
Do I have to know all the "laws" listed in the book?

Thank You for the help!

I actually have a related question as well if anyone can help me but as for the op... here is what i know. At least in california, you take the PTCB exam to become certified and then with that certification you have to fill out an application, which can be found here... http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/forms/tch_app_pkt.pdf, to actually become licensed.

So now my question is... I took the ptcb exam and received my certification last year and am just now starting to look for a tech job. I initially thought that the cert would be enough but I went out to some CVS' and walgreens and I guess starting this year due to HIPPA regulations, only licensed technicians are being hired, so with that said... is that the same experience others are also having? im just curious... and also how long approximately does it take for the license to get processed and for the physical copy to actually be sent my way? Thanks for any advice and input!

You will still need to apply for the license once you pass the PTCE. Once you pass the PTCE, you apply specifically for the certified pharmacy technician license. (As opposed to the regular, non-certified pharmacy technician license, or the pharmacy student technician license.) When you apply for said license, you must include proof of certification via a copy of your certificate the PTCB provides you upon passing the exam.

Also, I recommend you do study a bit of pharmacy law.

I took all the practice quizzes on this site to supplement my studying and it helped a bit: http://www.pharmacy-tech-study.com/practicetest.html
