Hello everyone, my name is Kevin and I am 21 years old. I recently dropped out of college, taking Information Technology, realized it was not for me. Now I had a couple years to think about what I want to do, and been really looking into Pharmacy Tech.

Now my local Community College offers a Pharm Tech Cert, is it worth my time to take this for the cert or will I never find a job with just a Certificate?

All I did 3 weeks ago was buy Mosbys PTCB exam book from barnes & noble, studied on my own for those three weeks, reading the book once and mainly taking their practice exams. I just took my test 2 hours ago and passed. It's not dificult. Be able to do the math questions and you should be fine!

Where do I take the Cert and also will I be able to get a job with just that or would I have to go to school?

You will sign up on the website to take the exam, and you will take it at the nearest Pearson Vue Testing Center to you. Go to pearson vue's website and find your nearest testing center.....Also, Check your local state board of pharmacy online. My state doesn't require any pharmacy technician certification. I took the exam to be more competitive for jobs. I haven't started applying yet. Other states require a certain number of training hours or completion of a training school plus the PTCB exam as well. Here is a link I used which lets you know every state's requirements to become a certified technician...

Hope that helps.

It depends on the state. Here in FL a cert was just find until January 2012. Now you must attend a training school. This is terrible because the cert test is self study and super cheap. However, a cert school can cost 2000-3000 bucks. Can you say money maker?
