I'm trying to get into the Pharmacy field and hopefully land a job @ some retail chains. But without any pharmacy experience, I know it would be hard to get a job. So I had been searching for online training programs. Here are my foundings. Please give me some feedback.

Thomson EE Pharmacy Technician <-- Just recently enrolled.

Cost: $513 and up depends on payment plan. There is also $200 rebate upon graduation.

Pros:
Fully accredited.
Nationwide Recognization.
Thomson has over 100 years of education experience. Reputation.
Tuition is reasonable.
You can keep all materials that they sent.
Diploma upon completion the program.

Cons:
Method of Communication isn't effective.
Preferably bulletin board, live chat, video lessons.

PDCI

Pros:
Fully Accredited.
Diploma
They have present campus. (not in my state)

Cons:
Tuition is bit high
There is a broken link on their website

Virtual Insitute of Pharmacy

Pros:
Good Program Outline
Good Communication Channels (Chat, Bulletin Board etc)
Cheapeast Tuition ( They just raised to $247 compared to $197)
Certification of Completion

Cons:
Not accredited.
A lot of assigments

That's all for now. More info will add later.

I've never actually met anyone in retail who took these classes to get their license. In Florida it's not a requirement to get your tech license in order to be a technician and from what I hear most places would prefer to train you themselves. Of all my friends who landed internships only a few had retail experience, don't know if that's just coincidence or what. I personally wouldn't waste my money. Just try and apply to as many pharmacies as possible.

Not sure where you are located, but there are a few community colleges that run pharmacy technician courses for a LOT cheaper than that- ie, in San Francisco @ the city college....
One idea is to work as a clerk at a local pharmacy (just ringing up customers and filing, etc.) then work with the pharmacist to help him/her get you into working as a technician... small independent pharmacies are also not a bad idea to look into, since pharmacists in that setting are free to staff how they like and aren't bogged down by corporate rules...
GL!
