Just one really quick question: becoming a pharmacy technician trainee (and eventually a pharmacy technician) does not lock you into being that for your entire career, does it? I'd like to be a pharm. tech. throughout my undergrad years, go to pharm school, and become an actual pharmacist. But every website I've been to about becoming a pharm. tech. seems to be written by people who plan on being one for their entire lives, which is not really what I'm aiming for. Would I be able to be a PT and then after Pharm. school just find a new location to begin an actual pharmacy career, or are the PT positions generally for people who are going to remain there permanently?

p.s.- I apologize if this post seems supremely stupid to ya'll(it probably does). Cut me some slack at least, because I didn't even know "pharmacy technician" was even a job until like an hour ago. Thought I'd have to wait until I turn 18 to even set foot behind the counter of a pharmacy.

Yes of course you can be a pharm tech then go to pharmacy school and become a pharmacist and not be a tech for the rest of your life. Plenty of techs I've worked with did that or are doing that and their tech experience really helped them.

being a pharm tech is just like any other job when it comes to flexibility and etc. You definitely don't have to stay in the same location/pharmacy. You don't even have to want to become a pharmacist in order to become a pharm tech.

Many techs I know go into nursing or other science fields but want better understanding of the medicine they'll be giving or working with

most jobs seem to ask for pharm tech ... can you apply for pharm tech if u only have a license for tech trainee... i dont see any job openings anywhere titled " tech trainee" ... am i better off applying as a cashier then ?

there's usually just a exam you take. Sure apply as a cashier for the pharmacy and take the exam with the company. The fee might be waived and you'll be a tech

I've been a pharmacy tech for 5 years while getting my degree and am going to start pharmacy school this August. If your interested in becoming a pharmacist starting as a technician is the best thing for you.
