hey guys!
i worked in this pharmacy for about one and a half years and the thing is that i started as a clerk. then, they trained me to type prescriptions, dispense drugs and do stuffs that the pharmacy technician would do.
is this illegal (to work as a pharmacy tech without a certificate)???
cuz i wanted to include this as a work experience on application but then, i was concerned about this issue.

what if the interviewers ask me if i have a certificate or not?????

thanks in advance. 🙂

what state do you live in?
you don't have a technician in training license?
It is technically not allowed but the school is not gonna check on that.

thanks. btw, i live in ny.
so can i still include it on my application??

In NY, pharmacy techs don't need a license or certificate. If you are doing the work of a tech, then you are a tech. At least, that is my understanding of it. You can ask your manager to change your title, or sign up to take the PTCE if you want certification--- some pharmacies will give you a raise if you become a CPhT.

I'm pretty sure anyone can do anything under the supervision of a pharmacist. The pharmacist is the one taking responsibility before the prescription leaves the pharmacy. When I was 16 and started as a clerk (in a small independent), the pharmacist would let me/watch me fill scripts on slow nights (then, he would tell me what I did wrong! but it was so exciting for me and my three months of experience).

When I worked at a retail chain a few years later, I was a clerk but they trained me as a tech. The only thing that I continually got scolded for was grabbing drugs off the shelf. I don't know if it's "in CA" or "in this chain," but only techs and pharmacists were supposed to pick the drug off the shelf. Once they handed me the bottle, I could type the script and fill it, and give it to the pharmacist to check.

Definitely include your experience on your application, but make sure your job title is the job title the company has given you. If they call HR and ask if you were employed as a pharmacy tech, HR will say "NO" and it will look like you lied. I would list your title as your company does, but then put everything you do under "responsibilities" or "duties". Covers your butt but still shows off all you've learned.
