Pharmacy vs Cigarettes

Here in Alberta (Canada), we are planning to pass a legislation which will prohibit pharmacies from selling cigarettes. This legislation also applies to stores or wholesalers which has both a pharmacy and cigarette counter within its vicinity.

So if retailers were forced to choose, which one would stay? Cigarettes or Pharmacy?
I think chances are that they will keep pharmacy and create a separate location to sell cigarretes. (Secretly I wish they will give up on pharmacy, because some of the retailers do bring down the profession; wishful thinking, I know)

Yep...I would think that big retailers would go for pharmacies as well..even the retail person in the article posted was going for pharmacies in spite of the extra commission that he gets from cigarette companies to display hoardings...I guess its going to be a tough legislation to apply and would have a lot of protest with it...may even become a strong point for political candidates to argue on etc....but I still would go for a pharmacy....

I like what your're getting at, WVU. Lets take 92% saturated fat coconut oil, take out all cis bonds on the other 8%, and put it in 45 mL unit dose shot cups. Add a flavoring and put it at checkout stands across the company. Then watch your favorite brand statin stock rise. Mwa ha ha. 😆

I will be glad to see cigaretts off our shelves.

Its sad to see stores like shoppers promoting healthwatch but also selling cigarettes. Its all about money though.🙄

Yea, It would be nice if such legislation would work in the states. It is a big pet peeve of mine that corporations which advertise themselves as mainly pharmacies are selling cigarettes. There are plenty of places people can buy cigarettes, why do they have to be able to do it at a pharmacy, a place where we are supposed to improve peoples health 🙄
