Hey everyone, I am an incoming freshman for undergraduate school and I am torn between pharmacy or physical therapy. I was originally interested in becoming a physical therapist after tearing my ACL and going to rehab after knee surgery. I really liked how my therapist worked one on one with his patients and got to know them personally, he made me feel like a friend more than a patient. Working out is one of my favorite hobbies, so I feel physical therapy wouldn't feel like work as opposed to all the work a pharmacist goes through. To be honest, the main reason why pharmacy came into my head was the thought of making 120k+ after graduating. I have been reading through the forums and am aware of the saturation in the field. What I really want to know is the opinions of pharmacists/pharmacy students as to which career would be better before I commit to one. I would like to know how you like your job, is it true you work 12 hours with no breaks, and any pros or cons about becoming a pharmacist.

In MA you work 12 hours with no breaks, but that's just because it's illegal to work 13-14 hours with no breaks like you do in NY or TX.

A little extra money isn't worth doing something you don't enjoy every single day of your life. Trust me on this one.

I've worked retail for quite some time now. Only real con are the hours. Jobs are easy to find if you are willing to move. I worked in the middle of no where until my current position became available. Many people here want to live in the big cities so they keep saying its saturated. Just have patience. It seems like every month I'm getting area wide emails about another opening. I want to say last year the number of reported new grads were hired in my district alone was 20. Its a fast pace environment, if you can get past the snobby patients that just want to get in and out, you will find a lot of patients really appreciate what you do for them. Oh the bake goods I get on a weekly basis have added a couple lbs over the years.

If you ask a physical therapist if its a good field to get into, they will always say yes. I feel bad for new students coming into pharmacy to be honest, not a lot of hope out there IMO unless you want to live in undesirable locations.
